Marelle is donating a full suite to the silent auction at the 11th Annual Ole Miss Tailgate for Palmer: the complete Grove Collection, tiles, racks, mat, case, and tote, everything a table needs. It benefits Palmer Home for Children, which is the kind of cause this brand is honored to help support.

The tailgate is a watch party for Ole Miss vs. Florida, held inside the Manning Center with food, drinks, and the game on the big screen. Margaret won't be able to make it this year, but the suite will be there. If you're going, find it. If you're not, this is a good reason to.

Margaret Ellen is visiting Social Entrepreneurship 101 to talk about what it looks like to build a business around a value rather than a product. Marelle started as a gift for her mother, and the thing it was always about, gathering people around a table, is still the thing it's about. She'll share how that shaped the decisions that followed: designing tiles that are easy to play so no one feels left out, pricing quality so it doesn't require a luxury markup, and building the brand through community, events, and the people who show up to them.

Margaret took Principles of Operations and Supply Chain Management herself, which makes this visit a little different from a lecture. She has been asked to lead a discussion on how she maps Marelle's supply chain and makes the decisions inside it: what she chose to bring in-house and why, what she sources and from where, where cost, quality, and lead time push against each other, and how the frameworks students are working through this semester show up when the product on the line is a mahjong tile.

Less formal, more conversation. Bring questions.

Paths Look Different: A Lunch and Learn with the founder

Margaret is hosting a Lunch and Learn on the third floor of the CME, and the topic is less about mahjong than about how she ended up making it. She is a mechanical engineering student who built a design and hosting brand that also preforms in house manufacturing. That was never the plan. She'll talk about how she found her path, why paths rarely look the way you expect them to, and how a degree in one field can carry you somewhere else entirely if you take the opportunities in front of you while you still have them.

Lunch is provided, and the talk is open to anyone on campus; no background in mahjong required.

How she noticed the gap between mahjong sets that are beautiful and sets that are easy to play, how she sized a market most people hadn't thought to measure, who the Marelle customer really is, and what the numbers looked like before the first tile was ever made.
